Guest post by photographer,  Laura Evans.

When I first started taking photography seriously it was using an Olympus Om-1n, I developed and printed all my own work. And I loved it – the art, the process, the feel that comes with black and white images. Over time I graduated to shooting color and printing color and I grew to love that more. Occasionally, I would produce a black and white image that I loved but generally everything was in color.

In recent months though I have discovered a new found passion for black and white, it has that timeless feel, beautiful, clean and pure. This new found passion led to my decision a couple of months back to separate my black and white photography from my color work on Etsy. Other photographers warned that this could be problematic, black and white photography doesn’t sell well on Etsy. Why is this? When did it stop being fashionable?

My friend has a black and white wall in the entree way to her home … frames of all different shapes and sizes encasing a wide variety of gorgeous black and white prints. It looks amazing and makes a great impact the moment you walk through the door. I see black and white interiors all over design blogs, and in magazines, in fashion it’s updated every season to create a new modern and edgy look. And in the world of Etsy there are countless items appearing on the front page from jewelry to prints to housewares but rarely b + w photography.

I have never understood this. I can spend hours looking at the works of greats such as Ansel Adams, Richard Avedon and Josef Hoflehner. And there are countless books & magazines dedicated to the art form, but does it get the attention it deserves in the indie world?

I am really connecting with the strange creatures that Emma Kidd has been imagining lately. They look like something right out of a dream – a bizarrely awesome dream that you never want to wake up from.

Emma’s shop is called Benconservato and features articulated paper dolls (my favorite), prints, originals, note cards, and ‘zines.

Jeff and I were scheduled to go to France just a couple of months from now (actually more like a month and a half from now), which would have been our first time there. I haven’t even been to Europe, much less France. BUT there was a change of plans and now we are not going, at least not in May when we had originally planned.

For the most part, I am totally fine with that. I am sure we’ll go eventually…but when I see pictures like these from Georgianna Lane it makes me wish we were still going in May. She has taken quite a few photos in her travels to France. And they feel exactly how I imagine it to be – beautiful and kind of romantic.

Is that how it is there (in France)?

I’d love to know. If you’ve been there (or live there), how would you describe it? Let me know in the comments below when you have a minute.

And once you’ve left a comment, be sure to check out Georgianna’s photographs. She is a fellow Seattle gal and takes beautiful photos.

Alright bike fans, how much do you adore this hand printed bicycle love print from elSage?

Pretty cool, huh?

All the art prints at elSage are designed, carved & printed by Phoebe, the owner. And while the bike print is my fav, there are quite a few designs that I love. And many of them have been turned into a children’s line of clothing as well if you have a little one at home.

Discount: Receive 10% off your entire purchase at elSage with code papernstitch10 and always receive free shipping with a purchase of $25 or more. Good deal!

Good morning! Hope your Monday is off to a peppy start.

I like to start off Mondays with something fun and bright whenever I can, so here’s a little day glow to start your day…

A few days ago, I wrote a post for Hello BritIf you don’t know it already, head over and check it out – thsi site is quickly becoming one of my favorites (Brit has packed the site with home and style inspiration along with a long list of great diy projects).

I translated the neon fashion trend into home decor pieces. And I am pretty certain I now want to buy almost every piece I included. That’s the danger of writing retail related articles, isn’t it?

Anyway, I would love for you to check it out when you have a chance, and share it with a friend if you like what you see.

As today starts to wrap up, I wanted to share some of nature’s inspiration through the eyes of photographer Sharleen Heist.

I am kind of envious of the mood that Sharleen is able to convey with her camera. Pretty, huh?
