Quilting has come a long way since your Grandma’s weeknight hobby classes. And New York City artist, Carrie Strine, is proving it with her beautiful quilts, modern stitch work, and pattern.

I’ve always admired the labor-intensive diligence that goes in to quilting, but my admiration has soared to a new level now that I have found Carrie’s work.

Renee Anne Giveaway

This morning, we are kicking off a brand new giveaway with artist Renee Anne. We are giving away this original 4 x 4 inch watercolor painting, which is actually quite special, because it was painted exclusively for papernstitch. How lucky are we? And retails for $20. The bird was painted from Renee’s own photographs from her front yard in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.

And because Renee has not yet named this painting, she has decided to let you all name it for her. The winning title will receive the original painting. Pretty cool, huh?

Sewn Prints from Tastes Orangey

I am in so in love with these sewn prints by Clare Elsaesser of Tastes Orangey this morning. The rich brushstrokes and intriguing color palette, encompassed in a small, stitched box, just send me to another place. A place of escape, which I often need at the end of the day.

More about the artist… Clare lives and works in the Bodega Bay area and received her BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. And we are very please to have Clare as an exhibitor in the newest papernstitch exhibition, which opened this morning.

If you follow my weekly posts over on Scoutie Girl, than you know that last week I did a “words to live by” roundup, and I actually have another one going up later today. One of the artist’s in my upcoming SG post is none other than Jen Renninger of Please Be Still.

Jen has an entire series, coincidentally entitled Words To Live By, which is filled with inspirational posters and prints. And these were a few of my favorites, but there are plenty more to look through.

A Handful of Collections

The idea of collecting like objects has been around for centuries: stamps, sewing notions, and postcards are amongst the most popular. But what about those others things that we collect that are just as beautiful, but not as praised?

A handful of talented photographers and artists out there are documenting these more atypical collections, which are spurting up all over the internet now, with projects like A Collection A Day, flickr groups with the collections theme, and even on image bookmarking sites like Pinterest.

Here’s to hoping this idea begins to catch on with more people soon because the photographs coming out of these unusual collections are gorgeous.

I love these 3-D pieces from Cornflower Press. Each piece is truly a handmade labor of love. Artist, Lisa Kesler, actually cuts each block of reclaimed wood into the shape of a house. Then paints all four sides and prints each of those sides with a different original image from one of her hand-carved linoleum blocks.

Amazing the work that goes into each piece.
