I have a special post for you today, including not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR new artists for you to check out! This first one is Kate Durkin, whom I found on Etsy just last week and could not keep to myself. Her simple and lovely illustrations have soft color schemes and kids with antlers or elephant heads, and frankly, what’s not to love about those? She really struck my fancy, so I hope you enjoy checking her out too. Here’s her etsy shop, personal website, and blog!

This next artist was one of the first artists I even purchased anything from on Etsy, her name is Annette Mangseth. She actually has two etsy shops (Carambatack Design and Art by Annette Mangseth), and this piece of art (which happens to be an original!) is from her second shop. Her work is very easy to recognize, as she does most of it on antique book pages and uses mixed media illustration in a way that I’ve never seen it used before. Be sure to also check out her Flickr!

Here is a digital set of pieces by John W. Golden, whose Etsy shop caught my attention because of the vintage detailing. His tagline to his shop is “Vintage Techniques Made Modern” and I think that’s about as accurate as you can get when describing his art. He has a lot of stuff that reminds me of really high quality vintage comic books, and the attention to detail is incredible. There’s plenty more to look at in his Etsy shop, his blog, and you can always follow him on Twitter as well!

I was saved this artist for last because she is my newest favorite. The artwork you see above is actually embroidered (freehand machine embroidered, to be exact) and collaged with scraps of vintage and thrifted fabric and lace. I can’t even begin to tell you how something this gorgeous and detailed could come from a machine needle, but let me just say, Laura Amiss has some mad talent. The rest of her Etsy shop is just as amazing (especially the portraits) and if you have time, definitely give her website a gander, as well as her Flickr photostream.

Well, that’s all four of them for you. I do hope that you enjoyed my Wednesday Art Showcases as much as I have enjoyed putting them together for you, but I do have to regretfully inform you that this will be the last because I am busybusybusy planning for my wedding (that’s sneaking up on me, in just 6 months!). I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with you guys, and it’s been really great being able to contribute to such an amazing blog. Thanks for your support and I hope to be back again in the future, for sure!

I’ll still be around in the exhibitions with my jewelry shop for now, and you can always contact me at my own blog, Science and Romance, as well as follow me on twitter. It’s been great! Have a wonderful day! :D

Hello, Art Lovers! Here’s an artist feature thats full of woodland creature goodness. It’s so exciting to be able to bring you these artist every week, and this week is one of my favorite-favorites. His name is Justin Richel, and I found him through his shop on Etsy.So this one isn’t too woodland-y, but I do love cupcakes, so I think a wave of them is just fine with me. It’s a cupcake tsunami! Could that ever be a bad thing?

This is one you should definitely check out, his whole shop is pretty phenomenal! He also has a website to peruse, if you’d like.

There’s something lovely and calming about paintings of retro furniture on wood grain backgrounds. This one is actually a print of a xerox transfer onto veneer. I love it!

And this one is an original, that is actually a tiny painting (3.5″ x 5″) that is xerox transferred onto a panel of wood. This is another artist favorite of mine that was an instant favorite because of the color choices. Loving the softness.

This last one is one of my absolute favorites. It’s an original encaustic that is applied to a recycled wood block. She says about it in the description: “I transfer my drawings onto a base layer of encaustic, then overlay more encaustic or other paint onto the images. The wax is lifted, scraped, and incised in areas. I finish the piece with an ink rub to dull the color and enhance the texture of the wax.” And if I do say so myself, the results are incredible. A piece of art I would be proud to hang on my wall.

How about you? What are some pieces of art that really make you melt?

Visit the Mimi Etsy shop, blog and website, and have a fantastic week!

Yellow Monday is an illustration shop that is in the process of opening under a new name, Olive Dear. Both shops have some of the same items while they’re being switched over, and both are incredibly lovely! Some items will be retiring after they leave Yellow Monday, so you should check them out while you still can!

This masked owl is one of my favorites, I love all the sketchy lines and pale green color. And the fact that it’s an owl probably helps a little too, I’ve always been a sucker for owls…

“Dog Tango” (above) is one of the prints from the new Olive Dear shop. I think it would be a perfect addition to a little boy’s room (or a big boy’s room!). The color choices are my favorite parts about both of these lovely shops.

Check out the shops (Yellow Monday & Olive Dear) on Etsy! They’re full of wonderful things!

Katrine K‘s illustrations are all a bit on the mysterious side, with a touch of bunny-headed-girl whimsy and they’re not complete without some crazy old antique furnishings (and damask wallpaper! ah! so beautiful!).

Look at that chandelier! She’s definitely got an eye for detail, and I’ll indulge you a bit and tell you that anyone who can draw antique home decor the way that she can is instantly considered my hero.

There’s just something about girls with bunny faces that gets me everytime. I imagine something out of very magical Little Red Riding Hood, or even possibly (and maybe more appropriately?) Through the Looking Glass/Alice in Wonderland. Hope you enjoyed this week’s feature as much as I did!

Check out Katrine K’s etsy shop, blog, and flickr.

I just found this shop yesterday, believe it or not! And it’s amazing. I couldn’t wait to share it with you.

I can’t believe I didn’t find this earlier! It’s so wonderful, the tiny pencil details and the watercolor…I love it!

The artist’s name is Julianna Swaney, and she’s my new hero. Haha, just kidding. But she does ride high on my list of favorite artists now! Her shop is here, and she also has a drawing blog and a regular blog.

Hope you’re having a fantastic week!

Here’s a little peak into the world that is the ever-talented, Sarah Watts. I found her artwork first through her blog, 14Watts, but she’s recently gotten around to getting an Etsy shop! Hooray! (I may be a little behind on the recently, but it was within the last six months or so).

Her work is so fun and colorful. Almost darkly humorous in a way. She used to do a feature on her blog about useless talents, where she took submissions from readers and then illustrated them into utmost hilarity. They are really a must-see, and also the first thing of hers that I discovered.

She also has a twitter, along with her blog and shop, and another website (called Jooperwits) where she has a daily comic. Check her out!

Hope you’re having a great week!
