I’ve been keeping a couple of secrets lately. And I am so excited to be able to spill the beans on one of those secrets right now. It’s just a little news… News that Jeff and I are super excited about!
We are packing our bags and traveling cross country soon because…
We’re moving to Seattle!
…in just a few weeks! It’s been kind of a whirlwind, but I am thrilled to be moving to the west coast. We’ll be headed to “The Evergreen State” sometime in mid-September.
Everything will remain the same at Papernstitch (blog and exhibition site). We’ll just be in a new place. A place with a vibrant arts and crafts community and lots more. Can you tell I’m excited?
Now, since I’m moving to a totally new state, I need a teensy tiny bit of help…
Do you live in Seattle? If you live nearby, give me a little shout in the comments below. I’ve only been to Seattle a few times, so any tips you can share would be greatly appreciated (events, shopping, great food, etc). And if you’re looking to squeeze a new friend into your crew there, I’d love to meet up when I get settled in. Have a cup of coffee or a cupcake or something?

Aw shucks, I liked knowing you were in my own back yard. However, congratulations on the big move! I’m excited for you!

Awesome! I live in the Seattle area (in Redmond). It’s a great city and definitely has a fantastic art scene. There are some fun artsy groups- I am part of the etsyRAIN meetup group and that has been a great way to connect with other creative people.
If you have any questions or just want to hang out, feel free to contact me!

That’s great! I actually moved from Seattle to Buffalo, NY last year and miss many things…which part of Seattle are you moving to? Downtown or a surrounding city? Tacoma, WA is a nice place to spend time also…if you have a chance take the Underground Tour…I didn’t know the underground history until finally taking the tour after living is Seattle over 20 years! It’s also nice to take the ferry over to Bainbridge Island – it’s a beautiful marina and waterfront park. And also Alki beach is great for walks (or roller blading) in the summer. If you have any specific questions, let me know!
Dina commented on August 29th, 2011 at 1:52 pmThank you Jenny and Dina. I will be actually be in Seattle. South Lake Union is where our apartment is. BTW-I have heard so many great things about etsyRAIN.

Oooh fun! Welcome to my city Brittni! I live in the Magnolia area, it’s beautiful, very close to downtown and the heart of Seattle, but feels private and neighborhoody. It’s almost like an island without a bridge. My backyard park is Discovery, and I can walk across the Locks to Ballard. I’d love to meet ya where you’re here, just holla!

Congrats on the move! Love finding new spots to call home. I went to college in St. Augustine, so I’ve been to Jacksonville, and I have to say Seattle seems like a good move for you!
Good luck with the move and looking forward to see you the design and style of your site & products adapts to the rainy climate
Jessica Newell commented on August 29th, 2011 at 5:52 pmI live about an hour outside of Seattle. You’re just in time for a beautiful autumn, lots of fresh apples, then more rain than you ever thought possible! Welcome!!
Clarity commented on August 29th, 2011 at 6:10 pmyes, as Clarity stated above, you will experience a longer stretch of gray skies and rain, but stay for one whole summer and you’ll fall head over heels for this city. =)
p.s. seattle ppl have issues with driving in extreme weather conditions. (first rain fall of the year = traffic, first snow day = traffic. pretty much anything weird falling from the sky = traffic. oh, and anything above 90 degrees = traffic. but the last one rarely happens so you don’t have to worry.

Yay! Welcome to Seattle! I’ve lived here my whole life. I love to travel, but am always happy to come home to the Emerald City. South Lake Union is a great up-and-coming area, especially for young, creative types. I think you’ll like it there. I live in Green Lake. There are lots of great neighborhoods in the city, and all pretty distinct. Water, Mountains. Enjoy exploring the city!
mary commented on August 29th, 2011 at 11:54 pmIn the Queen Anne area, there is a fantastic place called Teacup. Lots of fantastic teas, really nice and cozy and if you ask nicely, they will re-steep your tea.
They also discount the tea of the day. I’m partial to the Vanilla Mint Tea Latte myself.

Amy Alan commented on September 12th, 2011 at 11:55 amhey Brittni – I’ve been in Seattle about 4 years and in WA state my whole life! Seattle is a great city with a wonderful community – I’m sure you’ll be at home in no time
The state is actually incredibly diverse. So if you get tired of the gray skies, a trip over the mountains can be really rejuvenating, or the easy drive down to Portland a nice change of pace!

How exciting, Brittni! I live just south of Tacoma in a little spot called Steilacoom, about an hour south of Seattle. I would love, love, love to get together any time. This is a truly beautiful state, which I’ve been exploring for the last two years, and would love to recommend some daytrips for you. (Number one on the list is anywhere in the San Juan Islands!) Best of luck with your move, I’ll sending you a welcome email:)

papernstitch commented on September 15th, 2011 at 10:20 amThank you again yo everyone for the lovely comments. I have tried to respond via email to most of you. But just wanted to say it again here. Once I get to Seattle, I am TOTALLY up for hanging out with anyone who is game.

I agree with everyone, you will love the whole Seattle area, I grew up in NE Tacoma (though, I have to admit, I don’t know if I could handle the rain again) and have great memories of the whole area. Also, don’t miss out on central and eastern WA. I went to college in Ellensburg and it wasn’t ’til then I realized there was a whole other side to the state that I’ve now grown quite fond of (and married a guy from over there too!). So, I recommend Leavenworth and Snoqualmie falls, and Stehekin, especially if you need a nice, sunny day without rain!
Enjoy!
