We’re taking a tiny shift this week at in our look at Interior Obsessions – from last week’s look at blankets, we do a quick swivel of the head, and check out some options for headboards. Often the anchorpiece of the bed, a headboard can range anywhere from a statement piece to something purely functional. Although the headboard is part of the visual decor of a bedscape, it also serves a practical purpose: keeping your head off the wall surface behind you. It is important to note how you use your bed when selecting a headboard. Do you sit up against the back and read? In that case, you might want something tall enough that you’re not leaning against a sharp edge, or choose something with a little angle to it for easier propping, and perhaps shy away from an upholstered board that might show wear. Or do you only lay flat in bed? That can mean your choices are unlimited.
Headboards can be made from found objects: pallets, old doors, screens, mirrors. They can be integrated with nightstands, or built up to fit your needs. A differentiated wall surface may be all you need, or a window can serve as a backdrop for your bedroom vignette. Or you can opt for a more standard look, either upholstered or a traditional bedframe. This can be the piece in your bedroom that really stands out from the rest, or can integrate seamlessly to create an overall vibe. What great items have you used to create that bedroom focal point?
