Last week on Interior Obsessions with FormFire Glassworks, we took a look at a color re-gaining popularity in recent years, love-it-or-leave-it yellow. Many of you seemed to be really enamored of the color, especially when paired with grey. Today’s look is at another resurgence in interior design, the freestanding tub, and I’m interested to see what your take is on this bathroom centerpiece.

This is not your grandma’s old clawfoot, although I could certainly imagine one, especially set in a very simple bathroom setting. The tubs we’re looking at today range from modern sculptural forms to those created from stone slab material. A contemporary take on a traditional japanese wooden tub set off by a frame of river rocks is also thrown in the mix. Although you can use a freestanding tub in a smaller space, a little visual wiggle room is the key to showing off this piece as a focal point in your interior design. Raised on a platform or even given its own adjacent area, the freestanding tub can add that sense of a spa environment to your home.

I’ve always secretly wanted a freestanding tub. I like the stone slab best, I think. Thanks for another great post Amy. :) Which one is your favorite?

I’m kind of partial to the wood one, just because tubs can feel so cold! But I also like the simple lines of the top one in the exterior space, and love the idea of being outside but in a private area.

Me too Angie! I didn’t see your comment when I commented earlier. And yeah, I hear you on the cold-factor Amy. I was actually thinking that as well.

Hands down, this is my number-one requirement of our future home….I know it’s silly, but I seriously fantasize about freestanding bathtubs lol. I am quite partial to clawfoots myself!

I will be bookmarking this in my “dream home” notebook:)
