This week, Room by Room with FormFire Glassworks takes a look at an iconic piece of modern furniture, the Eames Chaise.
The New Year often brings thoughts of resolutions, personal change and growth. These concepts made me think about psychology and how that type of practice could be incorporated into an office in the modern home. Of course, a session would necessitate some type of lounge, and that brought me to the Eames Chaise. A bit convoluted, but our minds do tend to work that way, don’t they? The Eames Chaise was designed in 1955 by Charles and Ray Eames for the director Billy Wilder, who needed a piece for a quick rest while in the office. This is no daybed, as it is only 18″ wide, but would certainly be able to fit into many types of room arrangements. Available through Herman Miller, the leather chaise comes with 2 loose cushions that can be placed under the head or behind the knees to make it the best fit for you.
In keeping with the psychology theme, I have chosen some handmade items that would be a fun addition to the ersatz office environment. Leather bookends echo the chair material, and hold up the large DSM volumes and psychiatry journals. Rorschach magnets hold papers on a whiteboard. A reclaimed wood holder displays a pile of business cards, while a punch-out wood calendar keeps the room from being too clinical. A set of printed felt coasters combine to show the anatomy of the human brain.
Next week I will choose a new iconic piece and give you my picks for accessorizing your modern home.
Happy New Year (almost)! Guess its time to start thinking about new years resolutions, huh? Hmmm…. What are your goals for 2010?

Ah, the beautiful world of Nadinoo… handmade fashions by British designer Nadia Izruna (who is adorable by the way). These scream “the perfect New Years outfit” to me. So amazing.

New Years is just a couple days away now. And many are hunting for that little black dress that will work in a pinch for any holiday occasion.
If your looking for something a bit more interesting, but still in that all encompassing black category (and maybe even a bit more casual), these dresses from La Casita de Wendy are nice.

Maybe you’re all Christmas-ed out, but I figure it’s never too soon to start thinking about next year…

I spotted jeongyun’s Christmas chandelier on you are my fave and was totally enthralled. The light fixture is made from three IKEA Glansa circle lights (now discontinued), and decorated with white lights and ornaments. A fun and sophisticated addition to the standard tree and garlands, don’t you think?

Hope everyone’s enjoying the end of the holiday season!
It has been really cold here (for Florida anyway) for the last week or so. And I’ve been keeping warm with a daily cup of tea. Yum! If anyone has any tea recommendations, I would love to hear them. Right now my favorite is green tea tropical from Mighty Leaf.

Well, this is going to be my last post for the week. I will be back next week with limited posts (probably one post per day). And then the week of January 4th everything will go back to normal in terms of regular postings. Hope everyone has an absolutely wonderful holiday.
