Shop of the Day: I am so in live with the playful images of San Francisco artist Mati Rose, owner/ creator of Suspect Shoppe. I swear each day my Christmas wish list gets larger and larger (and its not even November…sigh).

MiesFourSeasons
This week, Room by Room with FormFire Glassworks looks at classic design that transfers well to home use, the Four Season Barstool by Mies van der Rohe.

Designed in 1958 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the Four Seasons hotel in New York City, this classy barstool has the clean lines and simple perfected styling that inspires many of today’s furniture designers. With a chrome finish base made of shaped solid steel bar, and a single padded upholstered leather or textile seat, this stool is certainly an eye-catcher, yet can sit unobtrusively under a bar counter. Available in a wide range of textile choices or Spinneybeck leathers, this piece can slip seamlessly into your modern home. The Four Seasons barstool can be purchased from your nearest Knoll retailer.

In keeping with the concept of the home bar, I have made accessory choices to round out this location where we entertain family, friends and clients. A reclaimed rock maple cutting board sits beautifully on a light or dark countertop. Wine rests on the bartop in a simple holder that keeps the cork wet in a down position until use. Partially emptied, the bottle cries out for a wood-topped stopper with a gorgeous shape that accentuates the grain of the wood. Making a mojito has never been more enjoyable than with the graceful curve of a solid wood muddler – sized perfectly for a small glass, this utensil will help you to achieve that perfect drink. Along with the fancier moments, a home bar has its silly ones as well – and a set of pint glasses with sandblasted mustaches is just the right thing for watching the game or playing cards with friends.

Next week I will choose a new iconic piece and give you my picks for accessorizing your modern home.

This $0 (that’s right zero) makeover from S.HOPtalk is almost a year old, but I am certainly not tired of looking at it. See the entire transformation from bare walls to what you see above on the S.HOPtalk blog.
