zibbet

If you are getting tired of paying listing fees over and over again for your handmade/ crafty business, this giveaway is just for you! There is a new global marketplace that allows you to sell your handmade goods called Zibbet. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite finds from the site above. The unique thing about the site is instead of charging listing fees, Zibbet has two plans…The first is completely free of charge (no listing fees or hidden cost) and the second plan, known as a premium account, is subscription based and is just $7 a month (with again, no listing fees).

We teamed up with Zibbet to offer TWO free premium accounts for life to two lucky winners. And we also have a promo code for ANYONE to use to try out the site with a premium account for free for seven days. Use promo code PAPERNSTITCH for  a free seven day premium trial. Worth a shot right?

So how do you enter the giveaway?

There are several ways to play and you may enter up to three times. First, visit Zibbet and browse around for your favorites, then come back here and tell us which ones you like most. Second way to play, answer this question in the comments: how would you take advantage of having a free lifetime premium account to Zibbet? Third, twitter, blog, or send out a facebook announcement about this giveaway and leave a link in the comments here.

The giveaway will end on October 9th at 11:59 pm eastern time.

Vitsoe

This week, Room by Room with FormFire Glassworks takes a look at a shelving system that has been in use for almost 50 years, the 606 Universal Shelving System.

Designed by Dieter Rams in 1960, the modular shelving system is still a visual and practical tour de force. With an anodized aluminum support and shelving and cabinets in off-white metal, black metal or beech, this system is sure to find a home in and modern layout. The versatility of the system is endless. With self ending bookshelves of varying depths (that can be hung in either direction), cabinets with drawers and doors, hanging rods, tilted shelving for display and mounting backs for television monitors, you can design this system to fit any set of parameters. And if you don’t have a wall, there is an extra piece of hardware that transforms the system into a divider braced between floor and ceiling. But the best part about this shelving system is that it is expandable, and therefore a little easier on the budget. Start with a small system and add on as you wish. A system made 40 years ago can get a new addition – these parts have been made to be consistent. Available from Vitsoe, this set is a fun addition to a blank area of wall. I’m considering where in my home to place a starter set right now!

Inspired by the image of the off-white shelves against the blue wall, my choices for handmade accessories are chosen from this limited color palette. Remember to add a little shot of a contrasting color like burnt orange or chartreuse to liven things up when you keep to a simple color scheme. Sitting on a shelf surrounded by books is a matte stoneware vase. Beside it lays a handmade suede journal adorned with an original print. In the space between two systems hangs a print evoking the cold weather of Finland. In one of the larger spaces between the shelves hangs a clock created from a recycled record album. Atop a tilted display shelf sits a hand-thrown and hand-painted decorative plate.

Next week I will choose a new iconic piece and give you my picks for accessorizing your modern home.

workspace

I apologize for dropping the ball last week on Wed. Workspace, but it was my husband’s birthday and so I was gone all day celebrating with him and it just completely slipped my mind. To make up for it, I have rounded up two times the workstations for this one! Hope you enjoy them…

workspace

Even a slightly cluttered workspace can look clean and tiddy if there’s not a lot of color distraction. Using a palette of mostly white will help make your space feel fresh and calming. Add an accent color to a section of your office or studio to bring in definition and a focal point (like that beautiful fireplace).

workspace2

Here’s another example of an all white palette. The painted, white wood floors make a small space feel larger.

workspace1If whites feel to cold for your space, try adding warmer tones in unexpected areas (meaning not the wall color). Rustic, vintage touches can help to make your workspace feel homey and comfortable. Try a wood desk and chair or some kind of hanging wall accent to bring in the warmth you are looking for.

There’s something lovely and calming about paintings of retro furniture on wood grain backgrounds. This one is actually a print of a xerox transfer onto veneer. I love it!

And this one is an original, that is actually a tiny painting (3.5″ x 5″) that is xerox transferred onto a panel of wood. This is another artist favorite of mine that was an instant favorite because of the color choices. Loving the softness.

This last one is one of my absolute favorites. It’s an original encaustic that is applied to a recycled wood block. She says about it in the description: “I transfer my drawings onto a base layer of encaustic, then overlay more encaustic or other paint onto the images. The wax is lifted, scraped, and incised in areas. I finish the piece with an ink rub to dull the color and enhance the texture of the wax.” And if I do say so myself, the results are incredible. A piece of art I would be proud to hang on my wall.

How about you? What are some pieces of art that really make you melt?

Visit the Mimi Etsy shop, blog and website, and have a fantastic week!
