Tea Leaf Cafe Tote Green

These bags are so cute. They would be great for a day of shopping or maybe even a book bag for a teen, since back to school is right around the corner. Do you have a summer sale to share? I would love to hear about it…Just leave the info in the comments section and I will be sure to check it out.

white workspaceMSLK office space {via This Ain’t No Disco}

There is something about a white workspace that feels so clean and organized. I would really L-O-V-E to have a workspace that looked like this one. It is so bright and modern. Great pops of color, and a place for the cat.

And these collections take center stage with a white backdrop. Gets me thinking about what kind displays I would like to put together. Very inspiring.

So have you heard of Julia Pott yet? She’s been around the blogworld quite a bit since I’ve been around these parts, and I’ve loved her work from the very beginning. She’s a fantastic, London-based illustrator and animator. Like, really fantastic.

The very first thing I ever bought on Etsy was this print, and now I can’t stop. I’ve bought at least three or four more prints, cards, and stickers from her shop, and now I’m seriously coveting these pillows of hers.

She’s done a music video for Casiotone & The Painfully Alone, and a really great video about first crushes. And all of them are just so lovely. I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to show you!

So go ahead and check out her amazing Flickr and YouTube, and then also her awesome blog and Twitter.

Yanagi-Butterfly

This week, Room by Room with FormFire Glassworks looks at a Japanese twist on the bent plywood chair – the Yanagi Butterfly Stool.

Designed by Sori Yanagi in 1954 for Vitra, the Butterfly Stool is known for its combination of Asian sensibilities and modern plywood forming techniques. With its gentle curves and simple form, this stool is a great example of paring a piece down to its essentials while still retaining a strong sense of style. Formed from 2 pieces of plywood, a metal rod and some screws, it is bent in all directions to form a comfortable seat that is at once functional and pleasing to the eye. The Butterfly Stool is available in maple, rosewood or cherry from Vitra.

Tapping into the strong Japanese aesthetic of the stool, I found many accessories inspired by Asian images and culture. A handpainted porcelain cup keeps the image of an origami peace crane at hand. A stacked stone vase is a perfect place to try your hand at ikebana. As a room divider or a wall hanging, three printed screens help organize your space. You can light your way with a wood and rice paper lamp, while tumbling into your platform bed with integrated shelving at the end of a long day.

Next week I will choose a new iconic piece and give you my picks for accessorizing your modern home.

janelle

You may remember the work of Janelle Lile from this Scoutie Girl post a couple of months ago. And now Janelle, has been kind enough to share more of her organic, plant life series with us. Janelle is a Seattle-based artist, and her current work is about getting acquainted with her new home by recording the unfamiliar plants in the garden and in the woods as they’ve appeared.

I love Janelle’s use of negative space. It allows the viewer to complete the image themselves. And her limited use of color is really beautiful.

shutter bugShutter Bug by Jena Ardell

Over the weekend, I went to an estate sale and for some reason, decided against purchasing an 8mm brownie camera. And now I am kicking myself because it was in mint condition and would have been a great addition to my modest collection. Wahwah.

To cheer myself up, I found some gorgeous photographs on none other than etsy. Wow- I am so in love! But if that doesn’t satisfy your camera craving, I also just wrote about some of my favorite camera illustrations for my latest Scoutie Girl post.

I’ve posted about Recovering Lazyholic in the past, and find myself more and more smitten with Erin Hanson’s brilliance.  It must be nice to have such a completely overactive creative mind.  I’m envious.

In this new project, Erin has re-envisioned the ABC’s based on word associations and common colloquialisms (thanks for the heads up design work life!).  Adore it.  I think these should be made into prints ASAP.  Click here to see the entire set from A to Z.  (I think one of my favorite’s might be C…)

Hope you’re having a great week so far!
