In our second installment of Room by Room with FormFire Glassworks, we move from the first impression of the home, the entry, to the one of the main hubs of daily life, the Living Room.

The modern living room is an exercise in balance. In functional use, the space needs to be comfortable, but that doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice design. There are so many stylish furniture pieces out there that continue the aesthetic choices made at the entry to your home that are entertainment-worthy and family friendly as well. And don’t forget the growing selection of convertible sofas that can shift this room to a guest space if space is tight and the need arises!

As you walk into the modern living room, you are taken aback by how a space can be so clean and simple in style and yet full of warmth. The wall is enhanced by a decal graphic that lends a bit of whimsy to the room’s background, focusing your attention on the seating area. The space is gently lit by a table lamp that brings light down to a more personal scale. You sit on the sofa and touch the suede cover of a handprinted pillow that adds both texture and a pop of color. As your friend brings you a drink, you place the glass on a graphic coaster that sits on a modular side table system. A piece of ceramic sculpture sits atop the coffee table, a perfect conversation starter for a well-deserved chat.
Join me next week as we enter the modern dining room.
